EP 246: Men Helping Men Reduce the Mental Load with Zack Watson, Recovering ManChild
How was your week?
Mine was weird, but good. I danced shoulder to shoulder with Reese Witherspoon to All the Single Ladies, made Rainbow Rowell laugh and asked Dr Mary Claire Haver how we can help advocate for institutional and governmental change around menopause.
NBD 🤯.
It was a full and very surreal weekend at the ShineAway Conference in Los Angeles.
Here I am in The Home Edit Self-Care experience:
Now for the back story:
One of my 24 for 24 goals was to attend 12 ticketed events. When I saw tickets for this conference I thought “what the hell, let’s do it.”
I ended up not knowing a single person there. So, I talked to the people around me during sessions and at meals. Someone from the Fair Play Policy Institute recognized me from our monthly Zoom calls and introduced herself to me. She then introduced me to someone else who had worked in Washington, DC, and now does geopolitical satire on the internet.
I met and hung out with a 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker and her dad. I even spent time getting to know the ASL interpreter, Gabe. He signed all the main stage sessions by himself. His story is incredible!
The takeaway: Sometimes we just have to leave the house and go to the conference even if we don’t know a single person there.
In this week’s podcast, I do something I have never done before: I interview a man, specifically one who refers to himself as a Recovering Man Child.
Meet Zach Watson. Zach is an Invisible Labor Coach and he helps men implement the Fair Play Method into their homes to improve domestic equity.
