EP 245: Sustainable Self Care for New and Seasoned Activists
How are things going where you live? Have you been talking to your friends and family about the election? Did you watch the VP debate?
My family recently went to a neighborhood postcard writing party. Our block in Sacramento has been hosting holiday parties and potlucks for years and so we already know each other and talk about local politics all the time. We ate hot dogs by the pool and wrote 250 postcards to voters in Michigan thanking them for being voters and encouraging them to bring their friends and family to the polls in November.
Our teenager has been talking to all the adults in her life and asking them if they are registered to vote and to check their registration at www.vote.gov because she is too young to vote, but she understands that the adults in her life can make a difference in the election to protect her rights.
I hosted a virtual VP debate party, and we cheered for Coach Tim. He’s the dad figure so many of us needed growing up. Walz is progressive, civic-minded, and solution-oriented, and his dad jokes and quick commentary crack me up.
With all these new pals doing activist work for the first time, the topic that comes up again and again with friends, clients and podcast guests is how to do activist work without burning ourselves out.
In this week’s podcast, I tackle this timely topic: Sustainable Self-Care for New & Seasoned Activists.
