Yes, National Compliment Day is a real thing!
National Compliment Day was established in 1998 as a way to connect people and to spread some positivity.
Did you know giving compliments is good for you? It trains the mind to notice the positive and both the giver and the receiver benefit. The receiver feels good from being noticed and the giver feels good for the noticing.
Compliments aren’t just for appearance! Remember you could praise someone’s helpfulness, their courage to stand up for others, their compassion for seeing the suffering of others, or their work ethic. Most of us give more of what we are praised for, so bring up what you’d like to see more of in the world.
And if someone’s shoes are so cute you can’t stand it, I’m sure they’d love to hear how much you appreciate their style statement too.
One way to celebrate is to shout out a compliment to someone on social media with the hashtag #NationalComplimentDay.
Another way would be to send someone a thank you card, text or letter telling them how they have positively impacted your life.
Another way would be to send your favorite Galentine’s compliment presents – I love this notebook for your brilliant bestie, this mug for your resilient sister, and these glasses for you and your BFF to celebrate Galentine’s Day (Feb 13th).
What ways will you celebrate National Compliment Day?
